SafaLens
Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 12, 2026
SafaLens helps people review packaged-food ingredient labels for likely halal suitability. SafaLens is a research and reference tool, not a religious authority.
Information Processed On Device
SafaLens can process ingredient-label photos on your device to detect text and identify ingredients. In the current MVP build, ingredient photos are used for on-device OCR and are not uploaded by SafaLens to Cloudflare, Supabase, Gemini, Groq, Firebase, or AdMob.
SafaLens stores scan history locally on your device so you can review recent results. The current MVP does not include user accounts or cross-device history sync.
Remote Ingredient Checks
When remote services are enabled, SafaLens may send unresolved ingredient names, your selected madhab, the app version, and the platform to SafaLens backend services.
The backend may use third-party AI providers, currently Gemini first and Groq as fallback, to help classify unresolved ingredients. Remote checks are used when local reference data is incomplete. SafaLens does not send your ingredient-label photo for this remote check in the current MVP build.
Feedback
If you mark a saved scan result as helpful or incorrect, SafaLens may send feedback metadata to SafaLens backend services. This can include a scan history identifier, feedback value, feedback timestamp, verdict, selected madhab, and ingredient-result metadata.
Feedback helps improve future seed data and product quality.
Accounts
The current MVP does not include sign-in, user profiles, email collection, or account-based sync.
Analytics, Crash Reporting, And Advertising
The current MVP codebase contains local hooks for future analytics, crash reporting, and advertising support, but production Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and AdMob ads are not wired in the current build.
If analytics, crash reporting, or ads are enabled in a future build, this policy and app-store privacy disclosures should be updated before that release.
Children
SafaLens is designed as a general food-ingredient reference tool. It is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
This policy may be updated as SafaLens changes. When material changes are made, the effective date on this page should be updated.
